There have been conflicts circulating in the Middle East for many years. Several of these issues are impacting the present, making this topic both contemporary and historic. The problems do not only concern the local area, but are often widespread and bringing in other nations to the debate. Issues in the Middle East are global issues, making them a topic suitable for discussion and comparison of arguments.
Because of the historic nature of the conflicts of the Middle East there is much information available and research can easily be conducted. Furthermore, because there is so much information available it is easy to read and form separate opinions on the matters and present them in a convincing way. Also, the multitude of sources allows the students to support their arguments with facts, building their ethos. Research may also bring a degree of objectivity to the discussion. With more sources and a global topic, one can take an unbiased and objective approach.
The global aspect of issues in the Middle East leaves a wide impact. Many people are affected by the occurrences and developments in the area, and arguments could be brought up from various points of view. Because the conflicts in the Middle East concern so many people, it is suitable to discuss this topic from an academic perspective. Work and debates on this topic could help the students prepare for further studies.
The other topics, concerning Japan and improving food services on the USF St Petersburg campus are not as academic or suitable for the goal of writing to convince. If the focus is on nuclear power with regards to Japan, then there is room for discussion. However, it might still pose as a difficult topic since few in the average population know of the intricacies of nuclear power. There is information available, but this topic does not appear as graspable as the variety of information on issues in the Middle East. The second alternative, a discussion on the positive implications of improving and increasing the food services at USF St Petersburg, does not concern many people. Because the debate concerns such a limited population, it is easy to fall into being excessively biased and subjective in the arguments. There is also little research or information available for this topic, leaving much of the discussion based on personal views rather than points supported by reliable sources.
Overall, the topic of issues in the Middle East offers a good base for research and different sides of the conflicts are easily identified and arguments could be built. The global span of occurrences in the region makes this a topic suitable for discussion in an academic environment.
