Project Four - Writing to Convince

I'm pretty split on what we should write about for project four. I think both the food services on campus and the nuclear power controversy would be good topics. I feel as though the food services would be a good topic because one, I feel very strongly that USFSP needs more variety with food choices and two, because I feel as though we could get a plethora of opinions from students. There really wouldn't be much research to be done for this topic in a traditional sense. The only research that would need to be done would be to gather the opinions of USFSP students. In my opinion, this way of doing research is much more entertaining than the traditional way of looking up information in books or online. By doing this project, the class as a whole could gather a very diverse poll of opinions and compose a very interesting project.

On the other hand, however, I think the nuclear power controversy would be a very good topic as well. This topic would be very informative and as a class, we could gather a lot of data on this topic. Not only would this topic be very informative, but we could also connect it with the recent earthquake/tsunami in Japan to show how devastating nuclear power can be if something were to go wrong. By choosing this topic, the class can also include information on past disasters with nuclear power such as the Chernobyl and Three Mile Island incidents. By choosing this topic, much more traditional research would need to be made, but by having facts and historical data to back up what we will be trying to convince, the project would be very strong.

Either way I see it, both the food services and nuclear power controversy would be good topics to choose. I would be happy to do either project and I'm sure both topics would stand out at the showcase.
